SBJ marathon man

Rob Schaefer of Sports Business Journal using svexa to become the ultimate marathon man

Rob Schaefer, reporter at Sports Business Journal, acknowledges that he is ‘no elite athlete’. But he adds that ‘sometimes, when a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity knocks, you have to drop everything and answer’. With that in mind, he has accepted an invitation from New York Road Runners to participate in the “Media Runners Program” at this year’s TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday Nov 1st.

Following a successful finish in 1hr55mins at his first half-marathon in the spring, Rob is embarking on a solid 12 weeks of training. He’s looking to shift from the all-too-prevalent ‘vibes-based’ approach to training, to a more structured and guided approach.

With that in mind, Rob is trying out several different technological assistants on his running journey – gait analysis from Ochy, sensor insoles from Plantiga, and an actual training plan from our Irma recommendation engine here at svexa.  You may recall that svexa has previously provided Athlete Passports and training plans for athletes at the TCS NYC Marathon, so we’re excited to be involved once again. Best of luck to Rob, we’ll be following his journey!
